CHILD CARE CENTRES IN CHONG BOON CONSTITUENCY (Establishment of)

Mr S. Chandra Das asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Community Development whether there are any plans to establish child care centres in Chong Boon constituency to assist working mothers.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs and Community Development (Mr Wong Kan Seng) (for the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Community Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am replying on behalf of my Minister.

There is no plan to set up a child care centre in Chong Boon constituency in fiscal year 85. Chong Boon is situated within the eastern sector of Ang Mo Kio estate. If we divide Ang Mo Kio into east and west, using Avenue 6, we have two sectors. At present, there are already three centres in the eastern sector of Ang Mo Kio New Town and none in the west. For fiscal year 85, there are plans to set up two child care centres in the western sector of Ang Mo Kio. And they are likely going to be in Kebun Baru and Yio Chu Kang.
