CHECK-OFF OF UNION SUBSCRIPTIONS (Review)

Mr Goh Chee Wee asked the Acting Minister for Labour if his Ministry has completed a review of the need for annual authorization for check-off of union subscriptions and whether the Minister will allow such authorization by union members to be sought at less frequent intervals.

The Acting Minister for Labour (Mr Lee Yock Suan): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am pleased to inform the Member for Boon Lay that my Ministry has completed its review of the need for annual authorization by union members for check-off of union subscriptions and has decided to extend the period of such authorization to two years.

Mr Goh Chee Wee (Boon Lay): Sir, can I ask the Minister when will the new arrangement come into effect?

Mr Lee Yock Suan: I intend to put this into effect within two to three months.
