Mr Goh Chee Wee asked the Minister for Communications and Information if he will confirm the decision of the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation to shelve the plan for the construction of the proposed Boon Lay station and explain the rationale behind such a decision.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications and Information (Mr Ho Kah Leong) (for the Minister for Communications and Information): Sir, I have been asked by my Minister to reply.

The MRTC has decided to defer the construction of Boon Lay Station because the HDB has postponed development of the new town which the MRT was designed to serve. Therefore, there is no need at the moment to have an MRT station there. Residents from Boon Lay Constituency can use Lakeside Station.
