Mr Philip Tan Tee Yong asked the Minister for National Development how much land is taken up by golf courses.

Mr Dhanabalan: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are altogether 12 golf courses in Singapore, including one on Sentosa Island. Together they occupy 1,005 hectares of land. This is about 1.6% of the total land area of Singapore.

Mr Philip Tan Tee Yong (Paya Lebar): Sir, what property tax rates are charged on these courses and how much revenue is generated from this land use?

Mr Dhanabalan: Mr Speaker, Sir, I do not have the answer to that question. Perhaps he can address the Minister for Finance. As far as I know, a lot of the land is land meant for catchment area, ie for water, and I do not know what kind of property tax is applied to such land.
