Dr S. Vasoo asked the Acting Minister for Health if he will report on the progress in the implementation of programmes to develop Toa Payoh General Hospital.

The Acting Minister for Health (Mr Yeo Cheow Tong): Sir, the Ministry will add another 150 beds to Toa Payoh Hospital to develop it into a 560-bedded hospital. This will involve the building of new blocks and the standard of ward accommodation and supporting facilities will be improved.

The design for the redevelopment of Toa Payoh Hospital will be undertaken by private consultants. Pre-qualification of consultants is now in progress. Construction is expected to commence by the end of 1988 and will take about three years to complete.
