Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for National Development whether he has plans to alleviate the traffic congestion at the junction of Upper Serangoon Road and Hougang Avenues 2 and 3.

The Minister of State for National Development (Dr Lee Boon Yang) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, I shall answer on behalf of my Minister.

Sir, Hougang Avenue 2 and Hougang Avenue 3 have been widened to their full width of 3-lanes in each direction. PWD has plans to widen Upper Serangoon Road from Tampines Road to Punggol Road from the present dual 2-lanes to dual 3-lanes. The tender is scheduled to be called in October 1987. When completed in 1988, the road widening will help to alleviate traffic congestion at the junction of Upper Serangoon Road and Hougang Avenues 2 and 3.
