HOUGANG AVENUES 2 AND 7 (Measures to deter speeding)

Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for Home Affairs what measures have been taken to deter motorists and lorry drivers from speeding along Hougang Avenues 2 and 7.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs (Dr Lee Boon Yang) (for the Minister for Home Affairs): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister. Sir, the authorized speed limit along these two roads is 50 kmh. In addition to the regular enforcement action taken by routine police patrol, Traffic Police have also conducted special speed check operations along these roads to make the Police presence felt.

During the period July to December 1986, a total of 26 special speed check operations were conducted and a total of 368 speeding cases were reported and dealt with. In view of the Member's concern, I shall direct the Traffic Police to increase their speed check operations along these roads.
