Encik Abbas Abu Amin asked the Minister for National Development whether he will look into the possibility of improving the traffic congestion along Dover Road and Holland Grove Road during school peak hours.
Dr Lee Boon Yang (for the Minister for National Development): Sir, many school students are ferried to school by school buses or by private cars. Very often, these vehicles stop and wait along the kerbside to drop or pick up students. In doing so, they cause traffic congestion near the schools for a few minutes. Almost all roads near primary schools experience this problem. It would not be justifiable to widen these roads.
There are two schools along Holland Grove Road and three schools along Dover Road. We have introduced many traffic management measures along these two roads to minimize traffic congestion. Roadusers will have to show greater consideration and tolerance to one another, especially during the short school peak periods.
