Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon asked the Minister for Community Development, in view of the announcement a few years ago that a sports complex would be built in Jurong East, next to the Chinese Garden, and the subsequent announcement that the complex would have to be resited elsewhere so as not to affect the ambience of the Chinese Garden, if he will say when the sports complex in Jurong East will be built and where will it be located.

The Minister for Community Development (Mr Yeo Cheow Tong): Sir, the Singapore Sports Council has reserved two sites in Jurong East. The first site is a three-hectare site at Jurong East Street 31 in Yuhua Constituency for a swimming pool complex and an indoor sports hall. The second site is a three-hectare site at Penjuru Road for an outdoor sports stadium. Planning for the two projects is currently under way and the facilities are scheduled for completion in 1997.
