Dr Kanwaljit Soin asked the Acting Minister for National Development, for all new Housing and Development Board estates and some old ones which are undergoing major renovations, if he will consider reserving the lowest floor for old-age homes.

Mr Lim Hng Kiang: Yes, my Ministry will consider. The void decks of HDB blocks are kept free, and up to 1/3 of the void deck space can be set aside for social and community uses. This space can be used for old age homes, if the need arises.
