Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Acting Minister for National Development why the vacant Housing and Development Board flats at Blocks 1 to 7 near Sembawang Community Centre are not sold or rented.

Mr Matthias Yao Chih (for the Acting Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, there are 659 units of 3- and 4-room HDB flats in Blocks 1 to 7 in Sembawang Road Estate. Over the years, 220 units have been sold by the lessees back to HDB. The estate is not popular so HDB did not re-sell the units. However, HDB will be letting out these flats on fixed term tenancies under HDB's various rental housing schemes.
