Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon asked the Acting Minister for National Development whether his Ministry will consider allocating parking lots to owners of heavy vehicles near to their residence or work place.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Acting Minister for National Development (Mr Matthias Yao Chih) (for the Acting Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am aware that many owners and drivers want to park their heavy vehicles near their residence or work place. Where site conditions permit, lorry parks have been built and heavy vehicle parking lots demarcated along selected roads in HDB residential estates. However, there is a limit to such parking lots that can be made available. Lots are usually allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Many parking lots have been demarcated at work places as well, such as factory and warehouse areas as well as along roads in industrial areas. Owners and drivers are encouraged to park their heavy vehicles at such places. There are sufficient parking lots at such places.
