Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Minister for Communications whether and when a proper bus terminal will be constructed in Bukit Panjang Town to replace the present one at Petir Road.
Mr Mah Bow Tan: The Registry of Vehicles is planning to build a bus interchange at Bukit Panjang to be ready by 1997. Meanwhile, the town is served by a temporary roadside bus terminal to cater to two feeder and five trunk services. The town is also served by six other trunk services.
The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation is currently doing a feasibility study for an LRT system to serve the residents of Bukit Panjang. If the study shows that the system can be viable, the bus interchange will be designed to integrate with the LRT station.
