Mr Shriniwas Rai asked Minister for Communications if he will build taxi stands in Housing and Development Board estates so as to stop queue jumping.
Mr Mah Bow Tan: Currently, taxi stands are provided in HDB town centres, outside MRT stations and at shopping centres in the HDB estates where there is high demand.
Taxi stands have not been set up in other parts of HDB estates because they have not been popular. Demand for taxis in HDB estates is fairly evenly distributed throughout the estate. It is not practical to require passengers to wait only at taxi stands for taxis, whereas they could now flag down a taxi right at their door step.
