Mr Muhamad Faisal Bin Abdul Manap asked the Minister for National Development (a) between 2008 and 2011, what is the number of HDB matrimonial homes sold as a result of marital breakdowns; (b) what is the number of appeal cases for HDB rental flats which HDB had received during this same period that involves a divorcee with a child/children under his/her custody; and (c) how many of such appeals have been granted and rejected.
Mr Khaw Boon Wan: We estimated that about 8,900 HDB flats were sold in the open market between 2008 and 2011, as a result of divorces. During this period, HDB received 4,250 appeals for HDB rental flats from divorcees with custody of child/children. About 40% of the appeals were approved. The others were rejected as they had other housing options.
