Mr Sitoh Yih Pin asked the Minister for Transport if there are any plans for road expansion or development to ease the expected increase in traffic at Wan Tho Avenue and other roads in Sennett Estate in light of the development of new condominiums in the surrounding area.

Mr Lui Tuck Yew: There are three upcoming private condominium developments situated at the fringe of Sennett Estate. Traffic from these developments going to Upper Serangoon Road is expected to use Pheng Geck Avenue and Tai Thong Crescent, which are among the roads used by residents of Sennett Estate. To meet the expected increase in travel demand, each of the developers of these condominiums will be required to carry out road improvement works abutting their sites. For example, as part of its sales conditions, The Nin Residences, the first of the three sites to be completed in 2014, is required to widen Pheng Geck Avenue fronting its development boundary, and to expand and improve the slip road connecting Upper Serangoon Road to Wan Tho Avenue.

The upgrading of Woodsville Interchange, when completed and opened by early 2012, will further improve the traffic situation in Sennett Estate. Motorists will be able to travel uninterrupted from Upper Serangoon Road to Bendemeer Road via a tunnel, shortening the traffic queues along Upper Serangoon Road. This will allow traffic to enter and exit the Estate more easily.

Future traffic demand in Sennett Estate is expected to be moderated by convenient access to public transport in the area. For example, Potong Pasir MRT station and bus stops along Upper Serangoon Road are within five minutes walking distance from the new developments.
