Mr Sitoh Yih Pin asked the Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports whether there are plans to set up a Family Service Centre in Potong Pasir.
MG [NS] Chan Chun Sing: Under MCYS' current Family Service Centre (FSC) development plan, we will build five new FSCs between 2010 and 2013, bringing the total number to 41. The first two new FSCs at Chai Chee and Telok Blangah have already begun operations, while the service provider for the new FSC in Tampines will be appointed this month. The two remaining new FSCs in Admiralty and Punggol will be ready by 2013.
We recognise that the cases needing help are now more complex and more FSCs are needed to better support vulnerable families in Singapore. As we approach the completion of the current development plan, we have initiated work on the future development plan to identify additional areas requiring family services. Based on our preliminary assessment, Potong Pasir has been identified as an area requiring a Family Service Centre. We will share details of the new plan, including the total number of new centres and schedule of development, when things are finalised.
