Dr Neo Kok Beng asked the Minister for Social and Family Development (a) whether the Ministry has any plan to pilot an initiative to promote co-parenting for foster children; and (b) if so, what is the schedule, if any, is there to apply this initiative to existing foster families.
Mr Masagos Zulkifli B M M: The Ministry of Social and Family Development is still studying whether adding a co-parenting stage might be helpful in improving the process of reunifying a child with his or her biological parents. The considerations include whether this will meaningfully improve outcomes for the child, and if the time taken for reunification will be lengthened.
