Mr Lee Kuan Yew asked the Chief Secretary how many Malayan Officers appointed by the Secretary of State have applied to retire under section 18 of the Retirement from the Public Service (Compensation) Ordinance, 1956; whether he will state their names; and whether he will make a statement in the matter.
Mr E. B. David: Sir, one officer has elected to retire after receiving approval of an application under section 18 of the Ordinance. His case was debated at the last sitting.
Five other officers have applied to the Secretary of State under the same section. Of these, only one, an officer domiciled outside Malaya, satisfied the Secretary of State under this section. He is still serving. I am not prepared to disclose the names of the officers concerned.
