Mr Speaker: We go back to questions. Inche Mohd. Ali, question No. 9*.

Inche Mohd. Ali Bin Alwi: (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, question No. 9*.
- See col. 625.
Dr Goh Keng Swee: Mr Speaker, Sir, we have recently in another connection called for somewhat similar information as at 1st August, 1960, and the number of temporary officers in the public service, excluding those in the Ministries of Education and Health, as at 1st August, 1960, are as follows: Division I 13 Division II 51 Division III 164 Division IV 205
These figures include married women officers.
Most of the temporary officers in the Ministries of Education and Health are married women officers.
As regards non-citizens in temporary posts, I would say that the number is not large. But if the hon. Member wants the exact number, together with the salaries and allowances paid to all temporary officers for the period January to August 1960, I shall supply them shortly, he present regulations on entry qualifications into the public service allow non-citizens to be appointed to both permanent and temporary posts, but for the most part, these are persons born in the Federation.
Inche Mohd. Ali Bin Alwi: (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, were these temporary officers recruited during the term of office of this Government or the past Government?
Dr Goh Keng Swee: During both periods. The majority were recruited during the time of the previous government.
