Mr Ong Chang Sam asked the Minister for Home Affairs (a) how many people in Singapore became entitled to have their names entered in the Registers of Electors, on reaching the age of 21 in 1963, under section 5 (1) of the Singapore Legislative Assembly Elections Ordinance; (b) how many will have their names entered in the 1963 Registers of Electors; and (c) when will the 1963 Registers of Electors be ready.

Mr Ong Pang Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, the answer to (a) is:

All Singapore citizens reaching the age of 21 in July 1963 will be entitled to have their names entered in the Registers of Electors.

The answer to (b) is:

It is presumed that the Member for Choa Chu Kang is referring to the number of new voters whose names will be entered in the 1963 Registers of Electors. If that is so, then the information required can only be supplied after the publication of the 1963 Lists "A" and "B" and the number of claims from new voters that have been approved during the 1963 revision of registers is known.

The answer to (c) is:

It is hoped that it will be possible to have the 1963 Registers of Electors ready by 1st March,1964.
