Mr P. Govindaswamy asked the Minister for National Development whether persons living in unauthorised huts at Tian Lye Street and served with notices to quit will be given alternative accommodation in Housing and Development Board flats, when will they be allotted the flats and where.

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, the unauthorised huts at Tian Lye Street are on land belonging to the Port of Singapore Authority who now require the land for development purposes. The Housing and Development Board is assisting the Port of Singapore Authority by offering to the dwellers in these unauthorised huts Housing Board flats in Bukit Ho Swee, Queenstown, Kallang and other housing estates. There were originally 91 families affected by this clearance. 35 of these families have found their own alternative accommodation, and the remaining 56 have been rehoused in Housing Board flats.
