"Mr Chia Thye Poh: To ask the Minister for Law and National Development whether the Government has taken any step to urge the Malaysian Government to enable fishermen, affected by the night curfew at sea, to carry on fishing at night, and if he will state the outcome in the matter."

Pursuant to Standing Order No. 20 (2), the Minister for Law and National Development supplied the following answer:-

  1. "The night curfew was imposed for security reasons. It has not been possible and still is impossible to take any step to relax the night curfew to allow fishing at night without endangering the security of the country. However, the Primary Production Department of my Ministry has been assisting the Social Welfare Department in giving relief to those fishermen who are affected."
