Mr Ng Yeow Chong asked the Minister for Health whether the Government has any plan to build a medium-sized market to replace the present covered pitches at the Tanjong Rhu Estate to serve the residents in the area.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health (Mr Sia Kah Hui) (for the Minister for Health): Mr Speaker, I have been asked by the Minister to reply.
For the present, the Ministry of Health does not plan to build a medium-sized market in Tanjong Rhu Housing Estate as there is no available land for such a purpose. Arrangements were made previously with the Housing and Development Board to provide the present covered pitches for hawkers at a cost of $30,550 in 1963. It is too early yet to decide whether these covered pitches should be demolished and replaced by a small but not a medium-sized market, if any is to be built.
