Mr Ch'ng Jit Koon asked the Minister for Education, since the Nanyang University degrees are recognised by the Government and some Departments of the University are adequately staffed and equipped, if he will ask the Council of the University to look into the possibility of the University offering honours degree courses as from the next academic year.
The Minister for Education (Mr Ong Pang Boon): Mr Speaker, Sir, it is learnt from the Nanyang University authorities that the University proposes to introduce, as from the next academic session, honours degree courses in a number of departments that are well staffed and equipped. It is also learnt that those departments which are not yet ready to offer honours degree courses will do so as and when staff and facilities have reached a comparable standard.
