Mr Low Guan Onn asked the Minister for Education, with the emphasis now on technical education, if the Government will consider conducting a weekend radio and television course on the basic theory of engineering science for the benefit of those workers in industries who have the practical skills but lack theoretical knowledge, as such knowledge will upgrade the quality of their skills and improve the standard of goods produced.

Dr Lee Chiaw Meng (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, the possibility of using the television medium as an extension of the vocational and technical education programme is being considered by the Ministry. The basic theory of engineering science for workers in industries is also included in this study. A preliminary survey shows that such programmes could be mounted provided adequate staff and finance could be made available.

Mr Rodrigo: Mr Speaker, Sir, is the Parliamentary Secretary referring to Educational Television Service or the ordinary television broadcasts of T.V. Singapura?

Dr Lee Chiaw Meng: Sir, I am referring to Educational Television.
