Mr S. Dhanabalan asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether there are plans to construct more Housing and Development Board flats for rental in the Kallang Basin area, especially in the area known as Polling District III in the Kallang Electoral Constituency, as the Kallang Basin area is very popular among those wanting to rent HDB flats and has the largest number of applicants (2,277 as at 31st December, 1976) on the waiting list among all the HDB areas.
The Senior Minister of State for National Development (Dr Tan Eng Liang) (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, the number of applicants on the waiting list for Kallang Basin covers three Electoral Constituencies; namely, Kallang. Geylang West and Kolam Aver.
At present, 692 more units are under construction at Kolam Aver Constituency. Apart from this, the Board has no plans to build additional flats in the area known as Polling District III in the Kallang Constituency.
