Mr Ang Nam Piau asked the Minister for Social Affairs if the Government has any plan to construct a modern indoor stadium with a bigger capacity for spectators as the present Badminton Hall at Guillemard Road and Gay World Stadium are old, inadequate and outdated.
Dr Ahmad Mattar: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Singapore Sports Council in its Master Plan of sports facilities had recommended the building of an indoor stadium with a seating capacity of 10,000 to 15,000. A decision has been deferred.
However, the Member for Thomson will be pleased to know that consideration is being given to the building of two smaller multi-purpose indoor stadia in areas where they are likely to be fully utilised in terms of population distribution and demand.
