The Senior Minister of State for Finance (Mr Goh Chok Tong) (for the Minister for Finance): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the motion* standing in the name of the Minister for Finance under item 6 on the Order Paper.
*The motion reads as follows:
That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 52), resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be varied by deleting the figures "$224,900", "$873,680", "$219,450" and "$17,760" appearing in the second column thereof and substituting therefor the figures "$257,900", "$935,900", "$229,820" and "$48,200" respectively.
Sir, it is proposed to increase the provision for the Privy Purse (Class I) and the salaries of Personal Staff (Class II) by $33,000 and $62,220 respectively to meet the 1978 NWC wage supplement.
An increase of $10,370 for Expenses of the Istana Household (Class III) is required mainly to meet rising costs of utility services, telephone services and the maintenance of vehicles.
A sum of $48,200 has been provided under Special Services (Class IV) for the purchase of silverware, crockery, compartment glass racks, and the replacement of one vehicle and one electric typewriter.
It is, therefore, necessary to vary the provisions in the Schedule to the Civil List as follows: -
for the "Privy Purse" from $224,900 to $257,900;
for the "Salaries of Personal Staff" from $873,680 to $935,900;
for "Expenses of Household" from $219,450 to $229,820; and
for "Special Services" from $17,760 to $48,200.
Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
