Mr Rohan bin Kamis asked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, to cater for senior executives, if the University will consider administering a 2 to 3-month intensive management course similar to the PMD and AMP courses of Harvard Business School, and when such a course will be implemented.

The Senior Minister of State for Education (Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam) (for the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am answering this Question on behalf of my Minister.

The University of Singapore at present does not have the necessary staff to administer a 2-3 month intensive management course similar to the PMD (Programme for Management Development) and AMP (Advanced Management Programme) courses at Harvard Business School.

The University has established a School of Management and the first batch of M.B.A. students is expected to be admitted in September 1980. Intensive courses along the lines of the PMD will be introduced as soon as practicable.

Short intensive executive development seminars will be conducted by the University's Business Administration Department in November 1980. The seminars are for middle level management executives. Topics covered will include general management and specific functional areas, like marketing and finance.
