Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for National Development whether his Ministry can provide recreational facilities at Changi Village and at the beach in Kampong Permatang, Pulau Tekong, which is popular with picnickers and campers from mainland Singapore.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Sir, the Parks and Recreation Department has no plans to develop more recreational facilities at Changi Village since there is already a sizeable park in the Village built by the Housing and Development Board. In the vicinity of Changi Village, the Parks and Recreation Department is developing the coastal strip abutting the Changi International Airport for recreational use. When completed, the strip will provide good swimming beaches and have amenities like foot-paths, cycle tracks and picnic grounds.

There are no plans to develop the beach at Kampong Permatang at present, in view of the many hectares of sandy beaches created through reclamation on the mainland and in other offshore islands which are not yet fully utilised.
