Haji Sha'ari bin Tadin asked the Minister for National Development (a) what is the progress in the construction of the Bedok Sports Complex and when the Complex is expected to be completed; and (b) when construction of an indoor stadium in Bedok will commence and when the stadium is expected to be completed.

The Minister for National Development (Mr Teh Cheang Wan): Sir, the Bedok Sports Complex will be built in three phases. The construction of Phase I comprising a swimming complex of four pools for 2,500 swimmers started in February 1979. The construction of Phase 11 comprising a soccer field, a 400-metre athletics track and spectator stand for 1,500 people, started in October 1979. Both phases will be completed by February 1981. Phase Ill will comprise a small indoor stadium.

The Housing and Development Board is now monitoring the usage of the recently completed Delta Indoor Stadium. If the findings are favourable, the construction of the stadium will begin in the third quarter of 1981 and will be completed by the first quarter of 1983.
