Mr Ho Kah Leong asked the Minister for the Environment when the Corporation Drive Food Centre will be rebuilt.

Mr Chor Yeok Eng (for the Minister for the Environment): ( In Mandarin): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Corporation Drive Food Centre was built in 1974. It is, therefore, not as modern as some of our new food centres. It is, however, still serviceable, and therefore it need not be rebuilt.

When I replied to the Member for Jurong on a similar question last year, I said that we were aware that the roof for the cooked food centre was too low and that ventilation was poor. Further improvements were being studied.

We are now finalizing our design proposals to raise the roof of the cooked food centre to improve ventilation. The proposals will be submitted shortly for approval of funds.
