Encik Yatiman Yusof asked the Minister for National Development what is his Ministry's plan for Masjid Angullia at Angullia Park in the development of the area; and whether the mosque will be preserved for use by Muslim workers in the Orchard Road area or whether it will be demolished along with the other buildings affected by the redevelopment.
Mr Teh Cheang Wan: The Masjid Angullia will be demolished as part of the comprehensive redevelopment programme for the Orchard Road Area. However, recognising the needs of Muslim workers in the Orchard Road area, the Urban Redevelopment Authority has leased to Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura a space within its Cairnhill Place residential project for use as a prayer hall. The Masjid Angullia will not be demolished until the URA project is completed in July 1987.
