Dr Koh Lip Lin asked the Minister for Communications and Information whether there are plans to set up a post office in Yishun New Town.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications and Information (Mr Ho Kah Leong) (for the Minister for Communications and Information): Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.

Sir, I am pleased to inform the Member for Nee Soon that a temporary post office, beside Block 293 Yishun Street 22, will be opened by May 1986 to provide postal service to the residents in Yishun.

A new post office will be opened in Yishun when office facilities are available by the end of this year. This post office will be situated in Yishun Neighbourhood Centre 2, at Block 293 Yishun Street 22.

As more housing blocks are completed, additional post offices will be set up. It is envisaged that by 1989/90 there will be a total of four post offices serving all the residents of Yishun New Town.

Dr Koh Lip Lin: Sir, may I ask the Senior Parliamentary Secretary where will the four additional post offices be sited?

Mr Ho Kah Leong: Sir, altogether there will be four post offices in Yishun New Town. I have named one in my answer just now. The other three post offices will be situated at Yishun Neighbourhood Centre 8, Yishun Town Centre, and Yishun Neighbourhood Centre 4. They are expected to be completed in the year 1987, 1988 and 1989 respectively.
