The Minister for Law (Prof. S. Jayakumar): Sir, I beg to move the Motion* standing in my name on the Order Paper.
*The motion reads as follows:
That this Parliament, in accordance with section 4 of the Foreshores Act (Chapter 113), approves the reclamation by Government of the foreshore and seabed off Woodlands Checkpoint containing an area of about 8.3 hectares as shown coloured yellow on the plan marked "Land Office Reclamation Plan No. 2/89" which is deposited at the Land Office, Singapore.
On 27th March 1989, I informed this House that Woodlands Checkpoint is being redeveloped to cater to the long-term traffic growth. A total land area of 18 hectares is required for the proposed redevelopment. Of the 18 hectares, 3 hec- tares is State land, about 6.7 hectares island acquired from the Malayan Railway Administration and the balance 8.3 hectares is foreshore and seabed which will have to be reclaimed. This area to be reclaimed is shown coloured yellow on the "LAND OFFICE RECLAMATION PLAN NO. 2/89", a copy of which is displayed in the Library of this House for the information of Members.
These reclamation works will be undertaken by the Housing and Development Board, as agent of the Government, at a total estimated cost of $34 million and are expected to be completed by mid-1991.
Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
