Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Minister for Health whether there is any plan to increase the salary of nurses.

BG George Yong-Boon Yeo: The salaries of Ministry of Health nurses were last revised in January 1994. The salaries of Assistant Nurses and Senior Assistant Nurses were again revised in September 1994.

The starting salaries of nurses with polytechnic diplomas are comparatively better than for other grades of appointment in the Civil Service at diploma level entry points, such as Teachers, Executive Officers, Technical Officers and Senior Immigration Officers.

The Ministry monitors the salaries of nurses and will review these when necessary to ensure that the nursing service remains attractive and rewarding.
