Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for Communications whether the overhead pedestrian bridges along the Pan-Island Expressway near Simei Estate will be provided with shelters, linking them to the nearest blocks of Housing and Development Board flats on both sides of the Expressway.
Mr Mah Bow Tan: There are currently three pedestrian bridges across the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) near Simei Estate near Blocks 114, 122 and 126 respectively. The LTA did not provide shelters for these bridges because of their low usage rate, and also, they do not connect areas that are under shelter. However, LTA is prepared to assess the need and will be willing to work with the Town Councils to provide shelter for commuters walking from their flats to the pedestrian bridges, and along the bridges to cross the PIE.
