Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for Communications whether the Land Transport Authority will consider constructing an overhead pedestrian bridge along Upper Bedok Road near Simpang Bedok Post Office in view of the increasing pedestrian movements along this road.

Mr Mah Bow Tan: The Land Transport Authority's (LTA) recent survey showed that pedestrian and traffic volumes at the location mentioned are too low to warrant a pedestrian overhead bridge. LTA also observed that demand was dispersed -- pedestrians did not cross the road at any one point.

Further, the road is narrow with no central divider. From LTA's experience, pedestrians do not find it convenient to use overhead bridges under such circumstances. LTA will monitor the traffic situation and will provide a signalised pedestrian crossing at the area when traffic builds up in future.
