Dr Lily Neo asked the Minister for the Environment whether recommendations and guidelines have been given for the construction industry to reduce noise pollution, especially in the densely populated areas.
Mr Lee Yock Suan: My Ministry has regular dialogue sessions with the Singapore Contractors Association and one of the topics discussed at these sessions is noise. The permissible noise levels in construction sites are spelt out under the Environmental Pollution Control (Control of Noise from Construction Sites) Regulations. Contractors are aware of the permissible levels and are familiar with them.
Earlier this year, my Ministry amended the Regulations to tighten the control of noise at night. We will monitor the situation to see if further measures are required.
