Mr Shriniwas Rai asked the Minister for Education what is the number of students who have applied to study at the South Asian Studies Department of the National University of Singapore.
RAdm Teo Chee Hean: At the National University of Singapore (NUS), students are first admitted to the faculty and not directly to departments or programmes. For this academic year (AY), they will matriculate on 7th July 1999, after which they will declare their subject preferences on 8-9th July 1999. NUS will be able to ascertain the number of first-year students who applied to read South Asian Studies (SAS) as one of their 3 first-year subjects and provide information on the number of students allocated to read SAS on 12th July 1999.
