Mr Ang Hin Kee asked the Minister for National Development in view of the recently revised subletting rules for Permanent Residents (PRs), whether the Ministry will consider making it mandatory for PRs who are no longer residing in their flats to sell them once the five-year subletting cap is reached.
Mr Khaw Boon Wan: Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) flat owners are allowed to sublet their flats after meeting the Minimum Occupation Period for the flat, if they have not sublet the flat before. The total period of subletting is capped at five years.
PR flat owners who have reached the five-year cap for subletting will be required to resume occupation of their HDB flats. Those who no longer need the flats for their own occupation will be required to sell their flats.
