Mr Zainal Sapari asked the Minister for Transport whether there are plans to enhance the road network in Pasir Ris by creating more road entries and exits to connect to the major expressways given the increasing traffic congestion during peak periods and the projected increase in the number of households due to new condominium projects.

Mr Lui Tuck Yew: Residents in Pasir Ris Town currently have four options to connect to the Tampines Expressway (TPE) – at Loyang Avenue, Pasir Ris Drive 8, Elias Road and Pasir Ris Drive 12. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been monitoring the traffic flow in the Pasir Ris area during peak hours and is aware that there is heavy traffic along Pasir Ris Drive 1.

In light of the current traffic conditions as well as expected traffic from new residential developments, a series of road improvement works will be carried out to help improve the traffic conditions. For example, due to upcoming nearby residential developments, Pasir Ris Street 51 will be widened to dual-two lanes, and the junctions of Pasir Ris Street 51 and Pasir Ris Drive 1 as well as Pasir Ris Drive 8 and Pasir Ris Drive 1 will be improved. LTA is also currently studying how to better improve the connectivity between Pasir Ris Town and the TPE.
