Mr Saktiandi Supaat asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information (a) whether tighter foreign export controls on AI chips and restrictions on remote access to overseas computing infrastructure will affect Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors; (b) if so, how; and (c) what steps the Government is taking to mitigate any such impact on these sectors.
Mrs Josephine Teo: We are monitoring developments on export controls on artificial intelligence (AI) chips and restrictions on remote access to computing resources. We are also engaging companies on the potential impact, if any, to Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors. If necessary, we will consider appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of these developments on Singapore-based companies.
