Mr Shawn Loh asked the Minister for National Development whether URA has considered providing HDB with more flexible plot ratios, particularly in non-prime locations, such that larger flats could be constructed on the same amount of land, whilst maintaining the same total number of occupants in keeping with the urban masterplan.
Mr Chee Hong Tat: To support larger families, we are increasing the supply of 5-room flats. This includes building taller by increasing the Gross Plot Ratio for public housing sites where possible.
We do not have plans to provide new flats that are significantly larger than the existing 5-room and 3Gen Build-To-Order flats. There are options on the resale market for those seeking larger flats.
