Mr Lim Yew Hock: Mr Speaker, Sir, I rise to move the motion standing in my name,
That this Assembly, pursuant to section 174 of the Labour Ordinance, 1955 (No. 40 of 1955) resolves that the Labour (First-Aid Equipment) Regulations, published as Notification No. S 110 in the Gazette Supplement No. 25 of 29th March, 1956, as contained in Sessional Paper No. S.L. 13 of 1956, be approved.
Section 128 of the Labour Ordinance, 1955 (No. 40 of 1955) makes provision for the prescribing of first-aid equipment on every place of employment where twenty-five or more workmen are employed. The purpose of these Regulations is to prescribe such first-aid equipment as is considered to be essential so that this provision in the Ordinance may be enforced by prosecution, if necessary. I do not think it is necessary for me to elaborate on the benefits of this safety measure which are indeed quite obvious. Sir, I beg to move.
Mr Chew Swee Kee: I second the motion.
Question put, and agreed to.
