Mr T. M. Hart: Mr Speaker, Sir, I have His Excellency the Governor's authority to move,
That this Assembly resolves that the sum of $5,390,559 shall be supplied to the Government under the heads of expenditure and for the services specified in the Schedule contained in Sessional Paper No. Cmd. 18 of 1956.
Sir, the reasons why these supplementary votes are required are explained in considerable detail in the Command Paper. The great majority of the items referred to are unforeseen revotes of expenditure approved in 1955. It had been hoped to submit this list of revotes at the February sitting of the Assembly, that being the first opportunity after the Budget sittings in November last year. Unfortunately, certain unexpected difficulties arose which made this impossible. It is hoped that, by the end of this year, all necessary arrangements will have been made for the submission of these revotes either in December or at the first sitting in 1957. This year, where necessary, the old-established practice has been followed and work has been financed by means of advances below the line, pending the approval of the Assembly. Sir, I beg to move.
Mr Chew Swee Kee: I second it.
