Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Chief Minister which of the Ministers and Assistant Ministers are provided with bodyguards; why are bodyguards necessary for them; the dates from which bodyguards were supplied to each Minister or Assistant Minister concerned; and the cost of these bodyguards to the public funds of the Colony.

The Chief Minister: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Commissioner of Police is responsible for ensuring the personal safety of Ministers and it would not be in the public interest to disclose the measures taken by the Commissioner in his discretion to carry out this duty. No additional cost is involved.

Mr Lee Choon Eng: Apart from bodyguards, can the Chief Minister tell us whether there are police constables attached to or guarding houses of Ministers?

The Chief Minister: It would appear, Sir, that the hon. Member finds difficulty in understanding my answer.
