Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing if he will give complete figures pertaining to the Singapore Improvement Trust flats in Albert/Prinsep/Short Streets showing how the amount of Government subsidy in respect thereof is calculated.

Inche Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Jumat: The method of subsidy by Government on S.I.T. housing is outlined in the Government White Paper, No. Cmd. 6 of 1957. The subsidy is not related to any particular scheme but is in fact the amount required to make up the annual deficit in the Trust's Housing Account. It is not possible therefore to give any exact calculation of the subsidy in respect of the Albert Street/Prinsep Street/Short Street scheme for which there can be in any case no complete figures until the buildings are completed. The approximate figure of $30 to $40 given in oral answer to a question by Mr Lim Choon Mong at the last meeting of the Legislative Assembly as the subsidy for the $35/30 p.m. two-room flat is the best estimate which can be given.
