The Financial Secretary (Mr T. M. Hart): Sir, I have His Excellency's authority to move,

That this Assembly resolves that the sum of $302,992 shall be supplied to the Government under the heads of expenditure and for the services specified in the Schedule contained in Sessional Paper No. Cmd. 24 of 1957.

Sir, this is a very short Schedule. It contains only six items, the largest being a revote of $260,000 to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical equipment. The other items are explained in the Schedule. Sir, I beg to move.

The sum of $132 for Head 2 ordered to stand part of the Schedule.

Head 8-

Question proposed.

"That the sum of $14,770 for Head 8 stand part of the Schedule."

Mr Lee Kuan Yew (Tanjong Pagar): Mr Chairman, Sir, there is a cypher at the bottom of the explanatory note which says "Full savings are available." Can we have that translated to us so that we know what it means?

Mr Hart: Perhaps if the Member for Tanjong Pagar will read a little further he will see at the end of the Schedule at page 4 the statement, "The following deletion has been made..." which means that savings are available from Subhead 18 appearing at page 53 of the Estimates for 1957.

Head 31-

The sum of $40,000 for Head 31 ordered to stand part of the Schedule.

Head 33-

The sum of $2,340 for Head 33 ordered to stand part of the Schedule.

Head 49-

The sum of $260,000 for Head 49 ordered to stand part of the Schedule.

Head 56-

The sum of $520 for Head 56 ordered to stand part of the Schedule.

The sum of $302,992 for the Heads of Expenditure and for the services specified in the Schedule ordered to stand part of the motion.
